JUVEDERM
Juvederm is the brand name for an injectable filler products used for facial rejuvenation. Ultra and Ultra Plus are 2 types of Juvederm that can help determine their thickness as a filler. These types are available for correcting fine and deep facial lines. Each one of these types comes with an “XC” version that is infused with Lidocaine for comfortable injection experience. Juvederm contains a substance called hyaluronic acid (HA) that can naturally occur in the skin while some patients natural production will deplete. This substance can plump the skin by blending with the dermal tissue and drawing and binding water molecules thus hydrating the skin from the inside. Juvederm contains a higher percentage of “cross-linked” hyaluronic acid (HA) than any of the other products in the market. This formulation gives the gel a very silky consistency that brings smooth results in reducing wrinkles.
WHAT IS JUVEDERM USED TO TREAT?
Juvederm’s most common use is for treating the nasolabial folds or the parentheses marks that frame the area between the nose and the mouth. The other uses of Juvederm includes filling the lines around the mouth and on the forehead and to add volume to the cheeks or beneath the eyes and for lip augmentation. The Ultra Plus version formulations are used for areas that require a filler into the mid-dermis that is closer to the surface of the skin. It is used for treatment of deeper lines and folds or for adding volume deeper in the skin and to fill in some type of acne scars.
WHO IS A CANDIDATE FOR JUVEDERM TREATMENT?
Juvederm treatment is suitable for patients of all skin types. Patients with healthy skin that is beginning to develop a mild-to-moderate facial wrinkles are ideal candidates for a dermal filler treatment. The treatment is also good for individuals who want a fuller lips. Patients should have a realistic expectations about the degree of improvement possible and how long the results will last which is usually from 6 to 12 months.
WHO SHOULD NOT HAVE JUVEDERM TREATMENT?
Individuals who have a current skin infection in the area to be treated should wait until their skin completely heals before having a Juvederm dermal filler injection. Those who take a blood-thinning agents medications including an aspirin will need to discontinue the intake temporarily to reduce the risk of bleeding too much that may result. Some health problems and severe allergies can make a patient a poor candidate for this type of cosmetic procedures.
JUVEDERM TREATMENT OVERVIEW
The actual Juvederm injection process usually takes only from 10 to 20 minutes after the initial consultation. Before the injection, the skin area will be numbed to avoid any discomfort. A fine needle is used to inject small quantities of the filler into the skin in the desired locations. The skin will immediately look fuller after the treatment but best results will be seen only after about 10 days. During this time, minor redness, swelling or bruising of the treated area will heal on its own. The results will look very natural and the patient will not feel the injected material under their skin. Patients with regular Juvederm skin treatments don’t have to worry on laugh lines any more.
