WHAT IS BOTOX®?

Botox is a trade name for the neurotoxin protein botulinum toxin that is produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. Many people believe that this toxin can cause botulism poisoning which is true, but this substance is proven to be a safe and still a powerful neurotoxin if used in a very small, controlled and diluted quantities and is effective in wrinkle treatment.

HOW DOES BOTOX® WORK?

Botox® works by blocking signals from the nerves to the muscles and to the brain.

Because of this, the muscles can’t contract and thereby only fewer wrinkles are present. The memory of the skin will fade as time goes by and the muscle will remain relaxed thereby wrinkles will lessen or fade.

HOW LONG DOES BOTOX® LAST?

Botox® lasting effect will vary for each patients but any one can expect the results to last for approximately from 3 to 4 months and after these months the effectiveness will wear off. Although some women were only able to see signs of wrinkles reappearing for a further another one or two months. Botox® has been FDA approved and tested and has been used for wrinkle treatment for decades. Thereby, it is acceptable to receive a multiple treatments to maintain and continue the reduction of wrinkles.

DOES BOTOX® HURT?

Pain in Botox® procedures varies among patients and will depend on their toughness for pain.

Contributing factors to the pain of the procedure includes the area where injection is placed, quantities injected and if an anesthetic were used by the doctor to numb the pain. Patient should talk to their doctor if they have low tolerance for pain although most patients only report a minimal discomfort of the procedure.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT WITH MY TREATMENT?

Patient may experience a temporary redness and swelling on the area where the injection was made and there may be also some bruising around the treated area. Overall results will be visible in a few weeks and it will be noticed that the skin will soften and the lines treated become less visible.

WILL MY INSURANCE COVER BOTOX®?

Most of the insurance policies do not cover any cosmetic procedures. However, Botox® has been used in the medical field since the 1980’s . Using Botox to treat abnormalities of the eye muscles, migraines, muscle stiffness, hyperhidrosis or other medical conditions may be covered by insurance.

HOW MUCH DOES BOTOX® COST?

The cost of the procedure will depend on the quantity of units that are being administered. The cost will be discussed by Dr. Esrawi in more detail during your consultation after a determination that Botox® treatment is necessary.

WHAT CAN BOTOX® DO FOR ME?

The main use of Botox® is for the treatment of wrinkles. Those severe lines in the forehead, creases around the eyes and smiles lines can be reduced temporarily. It can also be used to slightly lift the eye brows and to reduce lines around the neck through skillfully performed procedure.

IS EVERYONE A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR BOTOX®?

Botox® procedure is safe but not everyone is an ideal candidate. Patients who have neurological conditions and women who are either breastfeeding or pregnant are not advised to receive Botox® injections. Wrinkles of different types may require a different injectable or filler. It is best to consult with your doctor first before deciding if Botox® treatment is right for you.
